In order for box turtles to stay healthy, it’s important that they stay outdoors where they can get plenty of sunshine and exercise.  Box turtles are omnivorous.  Omnivorous means that they will eat both plants and animals.  These turtles like to eat snails, insects, berries, fungi, slugs, worms, roots, flowers, fish, frogs, salamanders, snakes, birds, eggs and just about anything else the can get hold of.

Box Turtles are found mostly in North America.  When these turtles get too hot they will hide under the shade of old logs, wet leaves, and sometimes they will climb into pools of mud to cool off.  By the time November rolls around, box turtles will bury themselves as deep as 2 feet in the ground to hibernate until April.

Box turtles can live to be over 100 years old.
